Course Description:
The basics of design will be explored in this introductory course. Using a variety of materials and techniques, the creative process will be introduced and developed. An exploration of design elements and relationships will establish a basic aesthetic sensitivity.
Student Responsibilities:
The student is expected to attend all class sessions on time and remain the full extent of each class session.
The student is expected to demonstrate a professional work and design ethic. This involves the exercise of critical listening skills, participation in discussions and critiques, preparation in advance of the class, using class time in a judicious manner, meeting all assigned due dates and excluding any form of plagiarism.
Student Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated on their ability to:
Demonstrate knowledge of the concept and its parameters
Translate this experience into an effective design solution
Execute and present projects in a prescribed and skillful manner
Complete and submit projects on time
Department Policy on Late Work:
If you fail to turn in a project/assignment on time, the grade of "F" will be issued. You may turn in late work for extra credit. The project will then be averaged as an extra credit project for your final grade. You will be limited to three extra credit assignments.
Extra credit must be taken from previously assigned work.
Class policies:
In the event of a late arrival or absence, students are responsible for any lectures and demonstrations that were missed. Lectures and demonstrations will not be repeated. The use of cell phones in class is not permitted; turn them off or set them to silent. If you absolutely need to use your cell phone excuse yourself from class, do not talk in class.
